The San Juan Shakespeare Company is a farce about the trials and tribulations encountered by a small Latino theatre company attempting to produce "Nuyorican Theatre” in New York City. The company is torn apart by their star performer Dolores Desmond, a classically trained “Actor” who wants to perform classical theatre before a legitimate audience. After the breakup Cheo, the CEO of the company, attempts to reinvent the ensemble as “The San Juan Shakespeare Company” to compete in a Shakespeare Festival for a $10,000 prize against their Arch rivals the detested “THEM!” (Theatre for Hispanics Exploring Marxism).

Cheo holds auditions for “Latino Actors who want to achieve greatness,” and all of his old actors return. They reconstitute the company, after some changes to their modus operandi, and continue to search for actors until Dolores returns and fills out their complement. They then collectively decide which Shakespeare Play to do, and begin rehearsals with a Director who is never there. With Dolores’s tough leadership, rehearsals bond them together as a company, and they go on to win first prize in the festival. In the final scene, they outdo THEM when they “Sweep the Woobies, (Way Off-Broadway Awards) by taking 4 awards for their performance.
