Inspired by a true story, Blood Wedding takes us to 20th century Andalusia, where a young bride-to-be escapes the constraints of arranged marriage to be with her lover. It is a poetic exploration of instinctual passion and agonizing desire, where names are inconsequential and identities are formed of function. Here, García Lorca fuses visual metaphor with the cerebral density of language, transforming the moon into a thing whose sole purpose is not to illuminate, but to expose hidden shadows. And where love is a precursor to betrayal and violence.
