Rafael Spregelburd has trained in writing with Mauricio Kartún and José Sanchis Sinisterra and in the acting workshops of Ricardo Bartis. His work in Buenos Aires’ theater scene is multifaceted: he is an actor, director, playwright and translator. He has won many awards for his hybrid, mixed-up, controversial plays such as Tirso de Molina (for “La Estupidez”), Casa de las Américas in Cuba (for “La Paranoia”) and el Premio Municipal (for “Cucha de Almas”), among others.
He has been commissioned by London’s Royal Court Theatre, and has been author in residence at Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Akademie Schloss Solitude of Stuttgart. His work has premiered at such prestigious institutions as Münchner Kammerspiele in Munich, Stuttgart’s Staatstheater, Teatro Helénico in México City and Paris’s Theatre de Chaillot among others. He has been translated by the National Theatre Studio in London.
Founder of the Buenos Aires based theater company “El Patrón Vásquez”, which has appeared in many festivals throughout Europe, the United States and the Americas.
His oeuvre numbers over 30 titles which have been translated into English, Dutch, Italian, Swedish, Catalan, German, Portugese, Czech, Russian, Polish, Croatian and French.
